Wood Blocks & Vinyl Halloween Decorations

If you think that unfinished wood blocks are boring, you probably have never visited our Project Gallery in the front of our store. Our team of designers come up with the cutest models! Here are some unique Halloween decorations that are super easy to make when used in combination with our self-adhesive vinyl words, shapes and quotes. We have a huge selection!

The "BOO" polka dot block decoration is our favorite! Distress the unfinished blocks by applying a little bit of Tim Holtz Distress Ink on the sides.  We used the Black Soot color. While it dries, cut some scrapbook paper to fit the front of the blocks (we cut it a bit smaller so we can see the block edges). We used Echo Park Paper Co "Dots and Stripes" paper. Glue these paper pieces to the blocks using Mod Podge.

The BOO letters are self-adhesive vinyl, so all you have to do is peel and stick the vinyl letters to the front of your blocks. Add the self-adhesive Gem Stickers (we used purple to match the paper). Add stretchable spider webs around your blocks (add as much or as little as you want).

Here's our Pumpkins & BOO Block Decoration. It's as easy to make as the previous one. Paint the blocks with acrylic craft paints, some will be orange and some will be black. Let dry. You can cover with paper - use the same technique as mentioned above.

The pumpkin faces and BOO letters are also self-adhesive vinyl shapes, so just peel and stick.

You can add embellishments to your blocks: ribbon, raffia, spider, wood knob to create a stem. It's your project, have fun with it!

Oh, we love this one too! Just paint the blocks, apply the self-adhesive vinyl faces for the pumpkin and Frankenstein, paint black circles for the ghost, and wrap one block with jute to create a mummy. We added wiggly eyes to the mummy and Frankenstein blocks. How cute are these!

We hope you enjoyed these easy-to-make Halloween projects. The supplies featured here are available at our Ben Franklin Crafts store in Monroe, WA. (while supplies last). If you have any questions, don't hesitate to call us at 360-794-6745 ext. 0, or stop by and we'll be happy to help you.

  1. did you buy the wood already cut or did you cut it yourself? If you did it yourself, can you tell us what type of tools used?

    2. Can they be purchased online? I live in Texas, so I can't visit your store, although I'd love to. I'm not seeing them on your website.

  4. How did you write the words "Have A Spooktacular Halloween"? Was it painted on with a stencil, free hand or did you use a Cricut?

    1. Ours was done using our self-adhesive vinyl that we had around Halloween. But all of your suggestions would work too!

  5. How did you attach the smaller wooden blocks to the longer wooden block in the craft project with "Spooktacular Halloween"?

    1. They're actually just sitting on top of each other, but you could use E6000 glue to glue them together if you decide you want to make sure they don't move.
