Tutorial: BON APPETIT Wood Sign

I'm sure you've seen these french-style signs in expensive stores, and wish you could afford to purchase one for your kitchen? Here's the good news! You can make them yourself! This easy do-it-yourself craft can be done in a couple of hours.

Supplies:
• 5" x 18" Unfinished Wood Board
• Old Rag
• Fine Sand Paper
• Chalk Paint
• Folk Art Mahogany Stain
• Paint Brush
• "Bon Appetit" Vinyl Words (created in our Ben Franklin Imaging Center)
• Popsicle Stick

Apply the BON APPETIT custom vinyl to your wood board.

Instructions:
Use an old rag to rub the entire wood piece to remove any fuzz and wood debris. Sand any rough areas and wipe again with the rag.

Use the paint brush to cover the border (top and outside) with the Folk Art Mahogany Stain. Let dry completely.

Paint the inside (back and inner sides) with the Chalk Paint. Let dry completely before moving on to the next step. This is important since if the chalk is still wet, it could prevent the vinyl to stick properly.

Take your vinyl words and peel off the backing. Place on your surface. Rub over the vinyl with a Popsicle stick. Then gently remove the transfer paper from the vinyl. Watch Hannah in this YouTube video where she shows you how to apply vinyl to any surface.
