DIY Glass Block Friendly Scarecrow Light

If you're not ready for Halloween but would like to have at least one handmade decoration to display at the last minute, here's an easy one for you!

You'll need a few simple supplies, which are all available at our Ben Franklin Crafts store in Monroe, WA. (while supplies last)

Supplies:
Glass Block with Opening
Battery-Operated Craft Lights or Firefly Mini Lights
Self-Adhesive Vinyl "Scarecrow Face"
Raffia
Ribbon
Jute or Burlap
Glue
Embellishments (like the burlap flower with berries we used)

Cut the burlap the size you need to make the hat. Sew the sides and bottom to create a pocket. Turn once at the opening to create the rim of the scarecrow "hat". You may want to use a dot of glue to tack the rim in place. Put that aside for now.

Apply the self-adhesive vinyl scarecrow face on the front of the glass block. (If you've never applied vinyl before, here's a quick video).

Insert the raffia in the glass block. Then insert the light strand. Arrange it so the lights are spread out evenly for a better lighting effect.

Glue the rim of the hat to the top of the glass block. Tuck in a few strands of raffia under the hat and glue in place. To finish it off, simply wrap the ribbon at the bottom of the block and make a bow. Then glue your embellishments on top of the hat as shown in the picture.

And there you have it, an easy last-minute Halloween craft that everyone will love!
