How to: Newsprint Wine Box

Here's a great way to dress up a bottle of wine for gift giving. This should come in pretty handy this holiday season.

Project courtesy of American Crafts

Supplies
  • Unfinished Wood Wine Box
  • Patterned Scrapbooking Paper
  • Metal Flowers
  • Decorative Embossed Tin Trim
  • Mod Podge
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Tin Snips or Utility Scissors
  • Paintbrush

You can choose to paint the inside of the wine box or leave it as is. If you choose to paint the inside, be sure to apply an even coat of Mod Podge to seal it.

1. Select a newsprint themed patterned scrapbooking paper to cover the wine box with.

2. Measure and cut the paper to fit each side of the wine box.

3. Apply Mod Podge to the outer surfaces and adhere the paper onto the box, then set aside to let dry.

You can layer other styles of patterned scrapbooking paper in the desired areas of the wine box for pops of color.

Feel free to add color with ink, paint or even glitter to the wine box, then apply an even coat of Mod Podge to all the outer areas of the wine box to seal it before proceeding to the next step.

4. With tin snips or utility scissors, cut the tin trim to place onto the desired area of the wine box.

5. Use the tin trim to decorate the box or create handles for it by bending the trim into a curved shape, then using the hot glue gun to adhere a handle to sides of the box.

6. Now, for the metal flowers. You can choose to paint them with acrylic paint or leave them as is before gluing them to the desired areas of the wine box.

Once you are done adding decorative embellishments, the wine box is complete.

  2. We do not currently have an online store for the items that we carry at our store in Monroe, Washington. But, we would be more than happy to take your order over the phone and have items shipped to you! Please give us a call, or send us an email with the quantity and styles you're interested in: monroestore(at)bfranklincrafts.com or (360)794-6745. Thanks!

    1. That would be a lovely idea! All the edges are finished, so there's no risk of cutting yourself on the edges. This would make a great mirror trim, with nice mitered edges - maybe even a little bit of color!
