This crayon bouquet project is a fun and easy craft that makes us think of spring!
Supplies
6”x12” Canvas
Crayola Crayons
Craft or Silk Flowers
Newspaper or Craftpaper
Tools
Hot Glue Gun
Heat Gun
You may want to cover your work-surface with newspaper or craft paper, this could easily get messy. If you are using a hair dryer instead of a heat gun, test to see which setting works best for melting the crayons.
1. Select the colors you would like to use for your project. We used 9 crayons in purples, pinks and blues. We chose to leave the papers on our crayons but if you want a cleaner look, paperless is a good option.
2. Using a hot glue gun, glue the crayons along the bottom edge of the canvas with the tips facing up.
3. While the canvas is flat, use a heat gun to melt the tips of the crayons until the wax pools and all the colors touch.
4. Gently lift the bottom (crayon end) of the canvas and keep at an angle. Use the heat gun to melt more of the crayon wax and let it run the length of the canvas until you have a few “stems” for the flowers.
5. Lay the canvas flat until completely dry. When dry, use the hot glue gun to glue the blossoms on the “stems” of the bouquet.
Canvas is a great surface for many different craft projects.

DeleteThese are so beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing! But I can hardly wait for spring to try this with my students.!Do you have any melted crayon art for winter?
ReplyDeleteLove it very beuatyful.
ReplyDeleteWhere do you get a heat gun??
ReplyDeleteYou can purchase a heat gun at most craft, hobby and hardware stores. A hair dryer might work for this too - just make sure you test the settings on the crayons beforehand to make sure you know how fast the crayon will melt.
DeleteOkay so I've seen the crayon trick a couple of times now but the first picture with the false flowers amazed me again!
ReplyDeleteThanks Paula! Kristi did a great job making something seem new again.
Deletewhat age group did you do this with? I am looking for activities for toddlers/preschoolers
ReplyDeleteChristina, I wouldn't recommend this specific project for toddlers. Using the heat gun might be a little dangerous for kids that small. There is a fun crayon project you could do with the kids: heat rocks in the oven and the kids can draw onto them with crayons. The wax melts onto the rock and they end up looking like they've been painted.
DeleteThis project was so easy to make. It turned out perfect. I used a blow dryer to melt crayons since I don't have a heat gun. I was surprised how quickly the crayons melted.
ReplyDeleteThey do melt pretty quickly with a blow dryer! Glad it worked well for you.
